Hollywood's Darkest Hour...

Ever since the 19th Century peoople have had this strange obsession with "the dark side" , although for a while this seemed to die down a bit. Cinema was dominated by comic book films and rom-coms. Yet after the success of Twilight, vampires are now cool again. With all the promotion surrounding the second adaptation in the series, it was only natural that I write about it.

The 2008 hit introduced young fresh faced actors and actresses and the media can't seem to get enough of them, particularly Hollywood's hottest heartthrob Robert Pattinson. Based on the novel of the same name, Twilight tells a tale of a teen romance between human and vampire following the complications that they face being so different. Despite the fact that the actors were not so well known, the film was an instant success shooting both protagonists, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson to fame. But at what cost???

Despite millions of teenaged girls swooning over him, Robert Pattinson has admitted that being in the spotlight has left him lonely and now suffers from cronic paranoia. He explained that being mobbed by his female fans has taken a toll on his dating life "I'm a kind of paranoid wreck" he claims. So he's good-looking, successful, and unhappy? Robert Pattinson and the Twilight franchise are another example of how it pays to be young and hot in Hollywood. But judging from the video...what do you think does he look happy to you?

Wow She Really is Gaga!

As I mentioned earlier in this blog, 2009's hottest music star Lady Gaga is mental! Her performance at the VMA's was the most bizzare of the entire night. She performed her latest single "Paparizzi" with a group of backing dancers and I must say, she impressed me with her vocals. She's actually not that bad give or take a few notes. But anyway, halfway through her performance it became almost too much to watch as fake blood dripped down her middrift and faked her own suicide.

Already Anti-Suicide groups are commenting that Lady Gaga is "romanticising suicide" and that her behavior is irresponsible. We all know she crazy, but perhaps she trying to tell us something. Lady Gaga has repeatedly mentioned that fame and fortune has ruined her life and has even titled her upcoming tour "Fame Kills". She has been quoted saying "If someone had told me at the start of my career what success brings with it, I would have thought twice about it." Crickey she's only been famous for 5 minutes! It looks to me that Lady Gaga's performance as well as her crazy choice of outfits, is a desperate cry for help...SERIOUSLY!

And the Attention-Seeking Award Goes To....

The VMA's this year has been by far the wackiest and most memorable. From Janet Jackson's Tribute to her older brother and Pink hanging from the ceiling, it hasn't been short of amazing. All this and we end up talking about...you guessed it...Mr.West.

The Tween star Taylor Swift picked up the award for Best Female Video for her hit single "You Belong to Me". Kanye took it upon himself to take the stage as she was saying her acceptance speech stating that Beyonce's video was better. We were subjected to watch Taylor almost in tears as we went to break. I have to say that I wasn't that suprised with the incident, it's kind of what he does! Kanye West loves the spotlight and will do whatever he can to get it.

It was reported that he had been drinking before the incident, but I believe he was bored and wanted a bit of the spotlight. He has made a number of public apologies and stated on "The Jay Leno Show" that he hasn't had time to grieve after his mother's death and will be taking time off. Here's some advice...SPEAK WHEN IT'S YOUR TURN!!!

But alas, in 2 weeks time everyone will love him again. Kanye West's bad is constantly outweighing his good, yet he still sells millions of records. Hmm...

Who is Fefe Dobson?

Fefe Dobson is an unknown Candian singer that released her first album is 2003, around the same time as Avril Lavigne. She quickly turned heads as a black girl with a punk rock edge which hasn't been done before. But hold on, does she look kinda like someone we know?
Meet Rihanna, who is taken the world by storm with her edgey punk rock style. Glamour Magazine quotes her as having a "little-bit-punky, very much girly look". With the success of her number one hit "Umbrella", Rihanna has become an overnight fashion icon. Young girls all over the world have been rocking the now famous "Rihanna cut". She seems to have the world following her own trends rather than following anyone else's.

But still, Fefe Dobson and Rihanna's looks are far too similar to ignore. And with Rihanna admitting to be a fan of hers, one can only wonder if Rihanna's style is as original as everybody thinks...





Wow. Same hairstyles, same dress sense, even right down to the same tats! It's worth noting that Fefe Dobson first came on the scene in '03, long before Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad phase. But even if Rihanna did copy her, it doesn't matter now because nobody know who the heck Fefe Dobson is...Right? Here what Ms.Dobson had to say about the similarities in hers and Rihanna's style, "I try to take Rihanna bitting my style as a compliment. It get a little much when she starts getting the same tattoos as me"....Ouch!




So what do we think, is Rihanna really a Trendsetter or a Swagga Jacker???

Has Beyonce lost her mojo???

The MTV Video Music Awards are less than a week away, and it looks like pop princess Lady Gaga and Divalicious Beyonce will be going head to head, both having 9 nominations each. One can only wonder will this be stiff competition or is the winner already in the bag?

We all know who Beyonce is right? Singer, dancer, songwriter, actress blah blah blah. I don't know if it's just me, but the hype surrounding Beyonce has seemed to die down and with fresh faces popping up from left right and centre, it's making me think whether Beyonce is staying relevent in the music industry. Is she still making an impact as she did with "Crazy in Love"? Let's take a look at her recent videos shall we?

Do you see a difference? Not really! If you ask me, Beyonce's recent movements have seemed way too repetitive for an artist that is usually known for reinventing themselves. So far her chart success has been reasonable, but there's not much left for Beyonce to give artistically anymore. Now with funky fresh characters such as Lady Gaga and the cultural impact she's had already after only releasing her first album this year I can only ask, is talent is actuallly important anymore?

Lady Gaga jumped on the scene with her catchy "Just Dance" and has quickly made an impact with her loud fashion statements and unique sound. It is pretty obvious that nobody listens to her music for its deep meaning! Lady Gaga's charima overshowders the fact that she's...quite frankly, a bit of a nut job!

But still she has 3 million albums copies Worldwide as well as both her singles "Poker Face" and "Just Dance" topping the charts. I can't think of much people who don't admire her already, which is strange seeing as she hasn't done much to have sold so many records. I guess it truly does pay to be young as at the tender age of 23, she has 9 VMA nominations and her first album was only released in August! After Beyonce's marriage to Jay Z her behaviour has become more and more strange, so I guess she has the lack of sanity in common with Lady Gaga at least!

The obsession with Young Hollywood has given me the conclusion that Lady Gaga will most likely beat out Beyonce for these awards but I guess we'll have to wait until Sunday...What do you guys think?
